When distances are measured from Cape Town (South Africa) to Arusha (Tanzania) and from Cairo (Egypt) to Arusha, they are approximately equal. This unique positioning places Arusha at the midpoint of one of Africa's most iconic north-south axes.
In August 2000, former US President Bill Clinton referred to Arusha as the "Geneva of Africa"—acknowledging the city's sustained contribution to conflict resolution, transitional justice, peace diplomacy, and continental dialogue.
